The Hands On The Future Kenya Skills Show 2019, held on February 8th, 9th & 10th, hosted over 20,000 youth and other members of the public over the three day event held at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre.
Organized by the Permanent Working Group on TVET (PWG) in collaboration with the State Department of Technical and Vocational Training of the Ministry of Education and the TVET Authority, the Skills Show showcased the myriad opportunities available to youth for technical, vocational, entrepreneurship and life skills training. Amongst the participants were recent school leavers, out-of-work youth, students from primary and secondary schools from throughout Nairobi and surrounding counties, parents, educators, and members of the general public. The event was completely free.
Under the theme #JijengeNaSkills (Build yourself through skills), this year’s Show featured 152 exhibitors, ranging from public and private TVET institutions, NGOs, corporations, foundations, and donor agencies, as well as professional career advisory services.
A total of 72 workshops and seminars were also offered to participants, including: an introduction to careers in the oil and energy sectors, digital skills for job seekers, mindsets required for a successful career path, careers in aviation, and advancing youth employment through cooperative businesses. A special emphasis was placed on training opportunities with ties to the GoK’s Big Four Agenda.
United States Agency for International Development together with Young African Leaders Initiative East Africa offered us the opportunity on 10th February 2019 and helped us tremendously in featuring Meskith Creations at Exhibition. Where we able to showcase and learn as well towards improving and making Africa great.
